How do you participate in a Run, Hop, or Wine 5K ?

The Run, Hop, or Wine event is a timed 5k road race followed by a local craft beer and wine tasting. The inaugural event was held June 13, 2015 at Riverside Park in Murphysboro, Illinois. Our goal is to expand the race series to venues across the United States.

The Run, Hop, or Wine 5K is open for all runners and walkers, 21 years of age or older, who love craft beer and wine. The post-race beer and wine tasting is open to anyone 21 years of age and older. Your registration to the 5K allows entry into the tasting, however, you do not have to participate in the 5K to attend. There is a different entry fee for those who do not participate in the 5K.

When you register for the 5K, you sign up for either Team Hops or Team Grapes. There is a fun competition as to which team has the fastest participants. Team Hops members will receive a race shirt and a custom pint glass. Team Grapes members will receive a race shirt and a custom wine glass.

All participants must be 21 or older. There are no exceptions!

1.) What is Run, Hop, or Wine?

Run, Hop, or Wine is a 5k road race followed by a craft beer and wine tasting supporting local breweries and wineries. Runners and walkers are welcome to participate. You do not have to be a race participant to attend. The beer and wine tasting typically begins immediately following race results. Live music and good food will often be available at our events.

2.) What is the entry fee?

Each race location may be different. Check the “locations” tab for further. There is a different fee for those wanting to participate in the tasting, but not the 5K.

3.) What do I get with my entry to the 5K?

  • Entry into the race and the post-race fun

  • Race shirt and either a pint glass or a wine glass depending on the team you register for

  • Custom race participation medal (optional – not all events include this)

  • Live music, good food, and beer and wine tasting (live music and food are not available at every event)

4.) What if I want to participate in the post-race tasting, but not the 5K?

There is a beer and wine tasting following the 5K. Anyone age 21 and over may attend after paying the entry fee.

5.) Is every Run, Hop, or Wine event a 5K?

Not necessarily. We recommend 5K’s, but we are open to longer or shorter distances.

6.) Do I have to be 21 to participate?

YES. There are no exceptions! Nobody under the age of 21 will be allowed entry into the race or post-race. This includes children of the participants.

7.) Will I need identification to enter?

YES. You will need your ID in order to receive your 21+ bracelet when you pick up your race packet. The bracelet must be worn during the 5K and presented for entry into the post-race area.

8.) Is this a team event or individual?

The short answer is yes. Awards are handed out to the top individuals in your age category.  However, you are part of either Team Hops or Team Grapes, which will also have some fun competition.

9.) What happens if there is rain?

The Run, Hop, or Wine 5K will be held rain or shine. We will cancel the event for severe weather when our participants could be placed in danger.

10.) Does the event support a charity?

Yes, all Run To Succeed events including the Run, Hop, or Wine 5K support a charitable cause. The charitable benefactor may change from location to location.
